Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Breast-conserving treatment has become a standard treatment for stage 1,2 breast cancer for approximately 20 years and has remarkably benefited many patients with small breast cancers. With the advent of sentinel node biopsy, less invasive surgical intervention of breast cancer has further accelerated in breast cancer surgical oncology.  In addition, several therapeutic approaches have been applied to the treatment of breast cancer as follows; 1.neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has enabled  breast cancer patients with large breast cancers, when responded to NAC, to receive a breast-conserving treatment, leading to favorable cosmetic outcome after operation. 2. oncoplastic techniques, in combination with breast-conserving surgery, have brought about more favorable cosmesis to breast cancer patients . 3. Several types of non-surgical ablation, performed in limited medical facilities, have provided extremely excellent cosmesis to breast cancer patients though they are not standard therapeutic options yet. Breast oncologists, therefore, should take subtype of breast cancer into consideration, in addition to size and localization of the tumor, when to select the therapeutic options. In this special issue, submit your excellent studies to describe various problems concerning how to conserve the breast in breast cancer treatment.
